UKIMA

Title: Ukima

In the north end of Tokyo is a town called Ukima, which is sandwiched between Arakawa river and Shingashi river and is felt like being left alone away from sorroundings because of its name.

We decided to live in one of the housing complexes in the town some of which had begun to be rebuilt, because its oldness suited the two of us.

When we married we both were over forty years old. For me it is the first time, for her the second time.  Everyday I really feel what it is to live with my wife because I had kept living alone for a long time until I married her.

On sunny days we go for a walk in the town with a camera only.  We watch young boys playing soccer on the ground along Arakawa river.  She tells me names of flowers planted by people living in the housing complexes.

On one occasion we terribly quarreled.  After we reconciled as usual, she said to me, ''you have never lost what is the most important to you.''  From outside the window we heard the engine sound of a cargo ship going across the river.

I have made up my mind to collect, one by one, what I think are important by shooting with my old film camera  that suits our life in Ukima.
